Finished Marking

So, this was the end of the Autumn Term. I've just finished marking exams and assignment.
As usual, most students don't know or understand enough maths.
Some may believe they'd get away with anything, others despair.
Still, we have to put marks and grades on their efforts.

No. In this case, we're talking about basic calculus and algebra - that should have been learnt long before the students landed in my class.

'learnt' from where??? primary, secondary school? are we not back to teaching again? how does a student who doesnt know basic calculus and algebra get into your class in the first place?
it aint always the students fault!
sometimes it is, sometimes it isnt.

if a person doesn't understand calculus and algebra, they shouldn't be in college! It's nothing to do with teaching, a monkey could pick up a book and get a better grasp than a lot of students.

your not a teacher by any chance???
answer this question, how do these people end up in college? seriously, if they are so stupid, how come they get into college in the first place? and how come monkeys dont go to college if they are so smart? i suppose, given that the monkeys are alot smarter, it goes to say that they aint stupid enough to end up going to college, and being taught by someone who 'is supposed to know' more that you do!

Hey, come on! This is not about being stupid. George Bush is bloody stupid.
If people know their calculus or not is probably dependant on a couple of things:
1. If it's their kind of thing or not.
2. If their teachers in prim and sec school had any notion about it.
It's just very unfortunate when things fall apart at university.
What worries me is probably that people don't tell that they are having problems before the exams. If they did, we might be able to help them...
